Apple is planning to open its first outlet in Canada, a retailer that has long been the unofficial leader in retailing Apple products, including its iPhones and iPads.
The retailer, Mac’s Speed Shop, is scheduled to open next year in downtown Toronto.
It is expected to open in the spring of 2020.
The Toronto location, located at Queen Street West and College Street, is one of only two in the world with no Apple store, said Apple spokeswoman Erin Roussos.
It will be a new location that will offer a wider variety of products including hardware, accessories and a full range of Apple products such as iBooks, iPads, laptops, iPhone and Mac computers.
Mac’s Speed is the only Apple Store in Canada with no outlets, Rousesos said.
Apple has been expanding in Canada and other markets for years.
In 2016, the company expanded its online retail presence in the Greater Toronto Area to include all major shopping centers in Greater Vancouver.
It also announced a partnership with Cabela’s to bring its range of hunting and outdoor gear to the country.
Apple opened its first store in Toronto in 2009.
